AMA Conference - December 1 to 3, 2009

The American Medical Association (AMA) in conjunction with the Health and Human Services Office of the Public Health Emergency Medical Countermeasures Enterprise and the National Disaster Life Support Foundation, Inc. announces that the Third National Congress on Health System Readiness will take place December 1 to 3, 2009 in Washington DC at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park. The Congress is a forum for leaders and other stakeholders to formulate essential elements of a comprehensive disaster medicine and public health preparedness system.

Hosted by the AMA in cooperation with partners from all sectors, this year's conference will focus on establishing a framework for catastrophic health events - distinct from day-to-day clinical and public health interactions - that enables all health professionals to appropriately respond in a disaster or other public health emergency.

Integrate lessons from recent public health emergencies - such as 2009 H1N1 influenza, terrorist attacks and natural disasters - into clinical and public health practice. Advance health systems to prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters and other public health emergencies appropriately. Develop a distinct educational framework for all health professionals to ascribe to in catastrophic events.
