 930 - Training Opportunity - VTTX V0005 Jan 20 2013

Course Description:

This exercise is the fifth in a series of 12 Virtual Tabletop Exercises (VTTX) offered monthly by the Emergency Management Institute (EMI). The VTTX involves key personnel from a community-based organization discussing simulated scenarios in an informal setting, and can be used to assess plans, policies, training and procedures. This VTTX differs from other Tabletop exercises in that it will be conducted using Video-Teleconference (VTC) technology, and is intended to provide an opportunity for responders across the Nation to simultaneously participate in a hazard-specific facilitated discussion. Lead facilitation for the exercise will be coordinated by EMI, with local facilitation provided by the participating agency. This format will allow the common delivery of exercise materials, scenarios, modules, and discussion questions among those participating in the exercise. Read more...

Assistance to act as next of kin/urgent reply

Greetings Friend,

I am Dr. Waheed Oman the senior Auditor In charge of Foreign Remittance Unit, of The African Development Bank (adb) Burkina faso. West Africa, I write to seek your consent to carry out a transaction that would be highly beneficial to you and me which i want to transfer from an abandoned account to your bank account; it is 100% risk free.

Mr. Morris Thompson was an account holder with my bank. I have been his account officer for 11 years before his death. He died during the World Trade Centre bombing in September 11 2001.

Since his death, the management of my bank has made series of efforts to locate his family but all efforts were proved abortive. I also carried out series of research to find his family but it was confirmed that the mother who was the only surviving member of the family died at the hearing of the son's death. He was already divorced before his death and due to this fact; no one was able to claim the fund he deposited in my bank legally because there was no will to it. He had a secret dollar account with my bank worth the sum of $10,500,000.00 (Ten Million, five Hundred Thousand United States Dollars) with an interest agreement of 6.7% which have been for the past 9 years.

My purpose of contacting you now is this:

My bank during the last executive board meeting resolved that if by the end of this year and there is no beneficiary to the said account, the account will be
confiscated and the fund sent to the bank treasury and this is where I am interested in and wants you to come in.

I want you to come in as the Next of Kin/Beneficiary to this account. I have all the titled documents to back your claim and the senior Auditor In charge of Foreign Remittance Unit, I want you to know that this is legal and 100% risk free as all the titled documents would be changed to your name and the fund wired to any bank account you wish to have it wired to.

Please note that I am willing to let you have 40% of the total sum while 60% is for me when the fund finally gets to your nominated bank account. Also note that I am willing to go extra mile to make this a success okey This is why I am contacting you so that we can put heads together and take care of this transaction within now and the next 14 working days.

I will like you to provide immediately the below information's, to enable me use it and get you next of kin application form from my bank.

1. Full Name:..........................
2. Full Address:......................
3.Telephone number :.........
4.Country :.............................
5. Occupation:.......................
6. Age:.....................................
7.Sex:......................................
As soon as you reply, you notify me so that I will let you know the next steps and procedures to follow in order to finalize this transaction immediately;

Kindly get back to me through my phone number +226 79939611 immediately so that I advice you on how this would be carried out.

Sincerely,
Dr. Waheed Oman

Fwd: [EM] New Free Mass Casualty Emergency Care Program Available (mass shooting or bombing, among other disasters)

New Free Mass Casualty Emergency Care Program Available

The Firefighters Support Foundation's (FSF) newest training program is now available.  Mass Casualty Emergency Care  address the totally different approach that EMS personnel must take when responding to incidents of mass casualties such as active shooter situations.  Unlike a typical accident or call, you will not want to take your jump bag or gurney into these scenes, and you will almost certainly be working alone rather than in pairs.  This program shows medical responders how to effectively respond to a mass shooting or bombing, among other disasters,

This program presents the basics of Tactical Casualty Combat Care (TCCC), an approach developed in combat zones over the last decade that has saved thousands of lives.  It describes the basic operating tactics of TCCC, why traditional EMS responses are inappropriate, the gear and supplies you will need (which are not expansive), and the basic medical approach that will save the most lives in these situations.  It also  demonstrates how you will be working with law enforcement at these dynamic scenes, often integrated into an armed escort team.

The program consists of a 40-minute video presentation and an accompanying 60-slide PowerPoint.  The presenter is a commander of an major state police SWAT team, who has instituted TCCC in his team and taught it widely.

The program is free to all members of public safety and  emergency management agencies.  Simply go to www.ffsupport.org to download your copy.

S&T Snapshots: Bomb Threat? An App for that, too

S&T Snapshots: Bomb Threat? An App for that, too

 Mobile

Caption: Homeland Security's new smartphone application for bomb threats

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Science and Technology Directorate and its public and private sector partners have developed a must-have "app": the First Responder Support Tools (FiRST) for computers and smartphones.

At approximately 6:30 pm on Saturday, May 1, 2010, a smoking SUV in Times Square was reported by alert street vendors. Acting quickly, NYPD evacuated vast stretches on 7th and 8th Avenues, including Broadway theatres and several other buildings and hotels in the area. The entire area was barricaded. Times Square on a Saturday evening before the shows is teaming with people, and the terrorist knew that. The bomb failed, but had it detonated, it would have killed and wounded many, according to NYPD.

In the first chaotic moments after suspicion of a bomb threat, first responders have a myriad of questions, assessments, and decisions to make, all at once, and all the while the scene could be changing rapidly. Is the bomb real? How large is the potential blast radius? Where will we evacuate people? Are there any critical infrastructure or special-needs population centers in the vicinity? Any schools, hospitals nearby? What roads should be closed? Which roads should stay open for evacuees? And on and on....

What if they could get all this information in one place?

Now they can: The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) and its public and private sector partners have developed a must-have "app": the First Responder Support Tools (FiRST) for computers and smartphones.

Anything less than full anticipation, preparation, and practice can jeopardize their credibility with employees, the media, and the general public. Worse, it can result in disrupted operations, harm strategic relationships, and cause irreparable damage to reputations.

Equipped with basic tools and techniques, however, Booz Allen helps clients across all markets effectively anticipate potential crises, and prepare and practice their system-wide communication responses. Attend this event to hear about a three-part strategy for assessing the threats, vulnerabilities, and consequences of high-stress, high-concern events and their implications for communications and continuity. This strategy can address public concerns, establish trust, and mitigate concern.

Session Agenda

  • Communicating scientific & technical information
  • Understanding the media's needs & frustrations
  • Delivering messages that matter
  • Scenario-based simulation
